DJ Nick’s love of music started seemingly as a toddler who had not even learned to speak or walk.  Whether it was his parents’ old school R&B CD’s ringing out in the living room at family gatherings, his sister’s top 40 or hip hop blaring from her room, or his grandparent’s Motown, Nick would stop whatever it was he was doing and listen.

Nick’s first experience in an environment that included a DJ occurred back in 2004 at Scooter’s Skating Center in Marlton, NJ, where he attended his first birthday party.  As concerned parents, we weren’t quite sure how this little 5 year old boy would react to all of the flashing lights, loud music, and background chatter, not to mention all of the kids zooming around on roller blades.  To our pleasant surprise, we put the roller blades on him and off he went … skating around the rink so honed in on putting one blade in front of the other that it was like no one else in the building existed.

So proud, as we watched him go, we couldn’t help but to think about how skating could become such great therapy for Nick helping him improve his gross motor skills and perhaps much more!  You see our excitement about something that might seem trivial to most was monumental for us considering that just two years earlier we had learned from a developmental pediatrician at Cooper Hospital that our only son was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), a complex disorder of the brain that creates varying degrees of difficulty in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication, and repetitive behaviors.

So you can only image how disheartened we felt a week later when we took him skating again.  Unlike the first time, when no one else even seemed to be in the rink, as soon as we walked in the building, Nick jumped in dad’s arms and cringed.  This time around, not only was he much more aware of his surroundings, but he was clearly frightened and overwhelmed by stimulation from the disco balls, flashing colorful lights, and sounds.  He tucked his face in my arms, covered his ears, and back home we went.

Fast-forward to today.  Where will you find Nick every week?  You guessed it … the skating rink … The Holiday Skating Center being his rink of choice.

But while roller blading is the obvious preferred physical activity, music is Nick’s true passion.

Without any formal training, manuals, or any other guidance, Nick taught himself how to mix on a Numark iDJ3 … the Christmas present that we thought would eventually collect dust in the attic along with all of our other memorabilia.

Today, you’ll find Nick performing at events with his much more sophisticated NS6, K12’s, and all the other DJ stuff that leaves us as parents scratching our heads … of course with a smile!

We are so excited that you have taken the time to visit his site and hope to see you soon.

Signed,

Proud Parents
